This week is Homecoming Week at RCHS! The Rensselaer Central Bombers will face the Benton Central Bison this Friday, October 4th, at 7pm. The game will be hosted at RCHS, and the general admission to get in is six dollars. The theme of the game is Inside Out 2 emotions. For example, you could dress up as Fear, Joy, Disgust, Embarrassment, or any other emotional character from the movie. Come out and support the Bombers!
Before the game, the Bomb Squad will be hosting a tailgate at 5:30pm in the North Parking Lot. This tailgate is sponsored by the RCCTA, Rensselaer Central Classroom Teachers Association, so thank you to them! The tailgate will consist of food trucks and teacher versus student obstacle course races. In the first round, it will be Mrs. Sterk versus Darius Lapsley, the second round will be Mrs. Hickman versus Katie Castle, in the third round it will be Mr. Hickman versus Corbin Mathew, in the fourth round it will be Mr. Sell versus Kamri Rowland, and the fifth round it will be Coach K versus Bryan Camarena, and the main event is Mr. Schmid versus Dalton Lynch. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see teachers and students battle for the win of an obstacle course race? There will be other games, such as cornhole and spikeball. You wouldn’t regret showing up to this tailgate, so invite some friends, and make it the best time!
After the game, there will be a homecoming dance. The dance will be held right after the game is over, and it will last until 11pm. The dance will be in the RCHS cafeteria. Your attire will be the outfit you wore to the game. The cost to get into the dance is three dollars, and the DJ for the dance will be Chad Wynn. We highly encourage your attendance at the dance, for it will be a great time!
This Thursday, October 3rd, the annual homecoming parade will take place. The parade will start at 7pm by Staddon Field, across from Pizza King, and it will go through downtown; it will end at the highschool. There are many floats involved in the parade ranging from all sorts of themes, from diner to western. Each class will have a float in the parade, and any club or fall sport wanting to include a float can. The Bomber Football and Cheerleading teams will be on firetrucks. As soon as the parade is over, there will be a bonfire at the school. The bonfire will be near the football field, and anyone in the community is welcome. There will be music, our RCHS band will perform, our cheerleaders will perform, and Mr. Meeks, the football coach, will give us an exciting speech honoring our senior football players. Even if you don’t want to be in the parade, you are strongly encouraged to sit and watch, and show up to the bonfire afterwards. We are looking forward to it!
This week, our spirit days are super fun, and we encourage you to join us in dressing up! This week Monday, September 30th, is PJ Day! Who would ever willingly miss the opportunity to wear PJs to school? Tuesday, October 1st, is Dynamic Duo Day! You can pick a twin for the day, or a sidekick! Wednesday, October 2nd, is Senior Citizen Day! Try to do some digging in your grandparents closet! Thursday, October 3rd, is Hawaiian Day! Come dressed in your leis and tropical wear! Friday, October 4th, is Class Colors! Freshmen are gray, sophomores are white, juniors are red, seniors are black, and staff are tie-dye!
On Friday, October 4th, we have our class games pep rally! RCHS will be on a modified schedule this day, so we will get dismissed from class around ??. Class games are where all of the students and staff will head into the gym at class dismissal until the end of the day. There will be a place for all of the students to sign up for games for each class, which leads me to the fact that the games are played class against class. The games will be, Dodgeball; Human Hungry Hippos; Tug of War; Musical Chairs, which is five people from each grade with twenty chairs. The music will play, and when it stops everyone will try to sit down. This repeats until there are two people left with one chair. The winner’s grade will get the point. Another game is Finish the Lyrics, which is where there will be songs picked with four people from each grade on a “team”. The song plays and then will pause on a place for a team member to “finish the lyric”. Each team has a buzzer, and the first team to hit the buzzer gets to answer first. If your team gets it wrong, someone from your team will be sent back to the bleachers until there is one person left. Again, the winner’s grade will get the point. Lastly, we have the relay race. First, scooter to halfcourt, then jump over the pool noodles, toss the ring on the cone, sprint to the end to pop a balloon, sprint back to halfcourt, jump over pool noodles again, and scooter back to start.
