In 2014 the Rensselaer Central Bombers won the football 2A State Championship against the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats. The first touchdown was scored by Dylan Wright, with 7:18 left in the first quarter, putting the Bombers up 7-0. The Wildcats would answer with a touchdown of their own to tie the game with 8:13 left in the second quarter. Then the Bombers would score two more touchdowns, scored by Jake Steinke and Trevor Hill, the first with 6:45 left in the second quarter and then another with 45 seconds left in the second quarter. The Wildcats would score again, with 24 seconds left in the second quarter, putting the score at 14-21 with the Bombers leading. Trevor Hill would punch in another touchdown, with 4:47 left in the third quarter, followed by another Wildcats touchdown, with 4:35 left in the third quarter. With the score being 21-28 the Bombers would score 17 unanswered points, a field goal by Nathan Ziese with 10:03 left in the fourth, a touchdown from Rylan Arihood with 5:18 left in the fourth, and another touchdown from Jake Steinkewith only 1:59 left on the clock. This would bring the final score to 21-45 with the Bombers winning the championship.
This win would complete the Bombers undefeated season led by Chris Meeks as the head coach and Dylan Wright as the starting quarterback. During the game the Bombers had 67 rushing attempts and 4 passing attempts. The team was led by Rylan Arihood with 153 rushing yards and 1 touchdown, followed by Trevor Hill with 99 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
During the game Rensselaer was basically closed down because everyone was going to Lucas Oil Stadium to watch the game. This state Championship is the only state championship that RCHS has ever won up to this point, and this win would bring more recognition to the whole school corporation.
