The Rensselaer Central Marching band has a great history filled with accomplishments and growth over the years. They work hard throughout the school year to make this happen.
The marching band’s practice sessions began in the third week of June, accumulating over 300 hours of practice to date. This extensive preparation has included memorizing music, perfecting instrumental performances, mastering marching formations, and learning intricate drills.
Throughout the season, the band has performed at four invitation-only competitions: Hobart, Hanover Central, KV, and Crown Point. Additionally, they have participated in one parade and are scheduled to appear in the Homecoming parade. The band has also performed at two football games, with two more home games scheduled.
Their competition results have been impressive:
- At the first competition, they achieved a silver rating.
- At Hobart’s competition, no gold ratings were awarded.
- At Hanover Central, they secured another silver rating, albeit with a higher score. Notably, only Hanover Central, the host school, achieved a gold rating among the 12 participating bands.
- At KV, the band excelled, earning a gold rating and three supplementary awards: Outstanding Achievement in Visuals, Outstanding Achievement in Percussion, and Outstanding Achievement in Auxiliary.
- Their final competition at Crown Point yielded another gold rating, with the band outperforming larger schools like KV, Crown Point, and Merrillville, despite tougher judging criteria.
Upon returning home, the band received a triumphant escort into town by the police and fire departments.
The band extends heartfelt gratitude to teachers, volunteers, the Band Boosters program, and school administration for making this successful program possible!
