The Rensselaer Central High School Bombers have announced their decision to withdraw from the Hoosier Conference, effective after the 2025-2026 or 2026-2027 school year. A member of the conference since 1996, the Bombers cited declining enrollment, geographical challenges, and being the only school in the Central Time Zone as key factors in their decision. This unique combination puts them at a competitive disadvantage.
The addition of Logansport, with an enrollment of 1,100 students, further highlighted the disparity, as Rensselaer’s enrollment stands at approximately 435 students.
Despite forming strong relationships with fellow conference members, Rensselaer deemed it necessary to reevaluate their affiliation. The school wishes the Hoosier Conference continued success.
The Bombers are currently exploring alternative conference options and opportunities that better align with their needs. A new conference affiliation has yet to be determined.
