Every year during the fall, which is when we have our homecoming, we have a parade. Each grade, sports that want to participate, and clubs who choose to be involved will put a float in the parade. The parade goes through town, and it ends at the highschool.
The designing of the floats for each class is started by the student council representatives of that class. They get approval from their class sponsors, which are two staff members, and then they set up a place to work on the float, the dates and times, and get the word out. They have to work to get other people involved, so they send out emails, google forms, text messages, and have face to face interactions.
This year the homecoming parade will be on October 3rd and it will start at 7pm. The parade will start by Staddon Field, and it will go through downtown; the parade will end at the highschool. Any student is allowed to be in the parade, whether you hop on your class float or you join your sport or club. Most floats throw out candy to the kids, and it’s a blast! If you haven’t been involved in the parade before, you should get involved, whether it be going to the parade, being in the parade, helping work on the float, or going to the bonfire.
After the parade is over, the school will have a homecoming bonfire. Students gather around Mr. Meeks and the Bomb Squad. Mr. Meeks does a type of speech on stage to honor our senior players. They play music, have cheerleaders, and, of course, a huge fire burning! The bonfire doesn’t last very long, but students and adults are welcome. It creates excitement for the game, and it helps students and the community get involved.
