This year’s annual Sunshine Dance will be hosted by Mrs. Yeager, Mrs. Cook, and the Sunshine Society on November 2nd in the high school cafeteria. The theme of the dance this year is Midnight Masquerade; the decorations will match this theme, but your outfits do not have to. Before entering the school, you and your date, if you have one, will be breathalyzed. You are allowed to bring a guest from another school, but you are not allowed to bring anybody in middle school or younger. You will need to get a guest pass from the main office for guests from a different school. There will be places to take photos, so if you’re interested in bringing masks for photo props, feel free. The dance will start at 8pm, and it will end at 10pm. The doors will close at 8:45, so make sure you aren’t late!
The tickets will go on sale as soon as we are back from Fall Break. The dates they will be on sale are the 22nd through the 31st. You can purchase your tickets in Mrs. Cook’s room before or after school, not during, or you can see Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Yeager for more details. In Sunshine, we vote for a princess, which is a junior girl, and we vote for a queen, which is a senior. If you are a Sunshine member, you will be required to vote when purchasing your ticket. The tickets for Sunshine members will cost $20, and for the non-members they will be $30.
Sunshine Society is a statewide organization that is very beneficial in school and to the community. Here at RCHS, our Sunshine Society buys books for the primary and elementary school for the holidays. The members work together to select and order perfect holiday books. They have different committees to help organize and tie the books with a bow. There is also a drop off committee to deliver the books, they usually wear holiday attire or Santa hats. Sunshine is also involved with the Angel Tree, and they pick a kid to buy gifts for.
The Sunshine dance is a semi-formal dance. The typical attire is a short dress for girls and a button up shirt with dress pants and a tie for boys. There are typically a majority of girls in the Sunshine society, so it is looked at as a dance where the girl asks the guy, by choice. Most couples or groups will go to places to take pictures like Highland Barn, St. Joseph’s College, or Hamstra Gardens to get pictures done. Before the dance, most groups go out to eat at places like Fenwicks, Embers, Royal Oak, SP19, etc.
Overall, the dance and the club are very beneficial to be involved in. The club can help you get some volunteer hours you might be missing. The dance itself is super enjoyable, and the environment is incredible! We hope this article has helped teach you more about the dance and some about the club. We hope it has encouraged your attendance, and we are stoked to see your outfits!
