Within the last year, the IHSAA has officially sanctioned girls’ wrestling as a sport. This means girls will now have an IHSAA state tournament, similar to the boys’, and we’re able to have a coach strictly for girls’ wrestling. On Tuesday, September 17th, RCSC officially named Kim Schmid as its varsity girls’ wrestling coach. Coach Schmid has been an assistant coach for the program for the last two years, primarily coaching the girls who have been on the wrestling team. She is now gaining her first head coaching experience and is very excited about the upcoming season.
Coach Schmid made the following statement about becoming the head coach:
“I am excited for this season of girls’ wrestling. After two years of building our women’s program, we are officially an IHSAA sport. I look forward to seeing the level of success and growth our girls can accomplish. It will take a lot of dedication and hard work, but I know our ladies are up for the challenge. The future of Bomber Girls Wrestling looks bright!”
The RCHS girls will begin their season on October 21st, and their first day of competition will be November 9th at the Delphi Invite.
