The Jasper County rivalry began with the Bombers and the Kougars when Kankakee Valley was founded in 1970. The student sections at any Rensselaer Vs. Kv game can get very heated; the stands are always loud and packed full. All of the sporting events go back and forth every year with each school’s competitive teams.
Everybody marks down the Friday Night Lights matchup between Rensselaer Central and Kankakee Valley. We’ve been playing the Barrel Game since 1970 when Kankakee Valley High School was founded and made their way onto our schedules as our Jasper County Rivals. We have a dominating 35 wins over their 19 wins. The highest scoring game was in 2014 when the Bombers won 60-34, compared to the two lowest scoring games in 81’ and 97’ in two defensive battles with 6-0 outcomes. Arguably the best game the Rensselaer has ever played is in 2001 where the Bombers pounded the Kougars 68-0.
The Chicken Bucket game was started by the Kougar volleyball team in 2019. Kankakee Valley kept the bucket for the first 3 years of its birth. We have then taken it back and have had it for the past 2 years. In our last win over KV we’ve altered the look of the bucket, and are set to face off for year 6 this coming Tuesday.
This Friday the Annual Cracker Barrel Game will be played at Kankakee Valley with our theme being “blackout”.Let’s go Bombers!
