Rensselaer High School’s Marching Band has picked Hunter LaCosse as their Drum Major this year. Hunter started his music career in the 5th grade playing the trombone, and ever since then his music abilities have flourished. Along with playing the trombone Hunter can also play most brass instruments like the tuba, and has even been in a theatre orchestra.
This year the band has chosen their theme to be, “Pictures at an Exhibition.” LaCosse explained that the theme is supposed to “Portray Russian art and to express the art through music.” The band will be at all home games to play at half-time, along with competitions every Saturday in September at Hobart, Hanover, Kankakee Valley, and Crown Point.
In his Drum Major career he hopes to redeem the band from their Silver rating last year with 4 gold ratings this year. Hunter says this is obtainable as they have been practicing since the end of June. Hunter LaCosse describes leading the band to competitions as intense, and scary. But the strive to do better, and having his friends is what is gonna get him through this intensive time of his life.
